Your Favorite Nintendo Characters Are Getting The Theme Park Treatment

Ever wished you could actually insert yourself into a Nintendo world, like “Super Mario Brothers” or “The Legend Of Zelda”? That dream might one day become a reality — if you’re willing to take a vacation to Orlando, that is.

Today Universal Parks & Resorts announced plans to bring rides and attractions based on Nintendo’s iconic characters and worlds to their existing theme parks in Florida, California, Japan and Singapore, thanks to a new partnership with the video game company.

While Nintendo’s never done anything like this in the past, it’s been a long time coming — in 2010, Nintendo president Satoru Itawa told investors at a meeting that, “countless times, idea of a theme park has been debated and discussed.” Now it seems like the super stars are in alignment for that exact idea — a recent annual earnings report revealed that last year the company made its first annual profit since 2011, and plans to “actively expand” its licensing to third-party companies (remember how they’re working on a live action TV series with Netflix right now?)

Details are forthcoming and the two teams still have to come up with ideas for attractions, but we already have some rides we’d love to see — like a carousel where you ride on different colored Yoshis, or a recreation of Iza’s Rapid Ride from “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.” And, of course, who doesn’t want to ride a Mario go-kart?
