Toronto After Dark Welcomes Zombies, Spirits, And Celebs

If you’re a Toronto horror buff, Halloween isn’t the only reason to be excited this October. There’s also The Toronto After Dark Film Festival, which runs October 15th to 23rd at the Scotiabank Theatre. Those anxiously awaiting this year’s announcements were treated to the first 10 titles (including Nina Forever, Synchronicity, and Tales of Halloween) last month. Earlier today, the festival rounded out the feature film selection with 10 more reasons to be excited—and terrified.

Among the new selections are two more Canadian features (Gridlocked, The Hexecutioners) and a variety of star vehicles, featuring the likes of Adrien Brody, Danny Glover, Vinnie Jones, Ali Larter, Sam Neill, Martin Starr, and Ray Wise. This list of horror and/or cult films have been creeping from one festival to another all year, but this is a rare opportunity to see them all in one place. By all indications, Toronto After Dark features the cream of the culty crop from Fantasia (The Interior), Sundance (The Hallow), SXSW (The Diabolical), and Tribeca (Backtrack), just to name a few.

Whether internal or external, every good horror movie revolves around a battle of some kind. In this new group of movies, nurses battle patients, mercenaries battle cops, single moms battle violent spirits, and an otherwise happy family battles… demonic forest creatures.

As scary as all that sounds, there’s nothing scarier than the thought of missing your most anticipated Toronto After Dark selection. To avoid that terrifying fate, head over to tomorrow (Friday, October 2nd) and grab tickets as soon as they go on sale. In the meantime, check out trailers for this year’s festival selections here.
