Star Wars: Episode VIII Starts Production—And Here’s A Teaser To Prove It
Several updates on the next episode of Star Wars just dropped this morning, and they’re pretty spectacular.
Lucasfilm kicked off their announcement by confirming principle photography on Star Wars: Episode VIII has officially begun today at Pinewood Studios in London, and even supplied this brief behind-the-scenes clip from the set to prove it. The video—which is certainly a Force Awakens spoiler—shows us picking up immediately where we left off at the conclusion of the previous episode.
Not only that, but Jurassic Park paleobotanist and three-time Oscar nominee Laura Dern will join Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro, who’s been long rumoured to play the big villain.
Another surprise casting is “talented newcomer” Kelly Marie Tran, who’s worked on several TV projects, digital shorts, commercials, and guest spots, but zero feature films. Colour us intrigued!
On a less surprising note, the announcement offered a friendly reminder that Episode VIII will be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper), and will welcome back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.
Get your lightsaber ready: Star Wars: Episode VIII is out in a theatre not far, far away December 15, 2017.
