Salem’s Season 3 Trailer Brings Mary Back From The Dead

If you’re the kind of person who suspects real, actual witches to be lurking among us (like, say, turning egg yolks blood red in the bathroom of your local coffee shop) then the show Salem probably freaks you out a lot. According to the series, about to enter its third season this fall (and on Halloween week, appropriately enough), it wasn’t a bunch of puritanical Puritans who were to blame for all the stake-burnings and witch-deaths of the late 1600s—it was the witches themselves.

Last season’s witch war saw the town’s sorceress in residence, Mary Sibley, go up against newcomer Xena Warrior Princess (aka Countess Marburg). Also, the Devil. In the end, everyone died—well, the Countess, Tituba, and Mary, anyway. But probably not Mary. Check out the season three synopsis:

Salem’s third season dawns with the triumph of the witches’ plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital. But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself. And there’s only one person on earth who can beat the devil — the very witch that birthed him, his mother, Mary Sibley. The only problem is—she’s dead. Or is she?”

According to the first trailer for the upcoming season, Mary has been dug out of her grave and still walks the earth. For an undead, she looks great—we’ll have to wait to find out how she feels about the ordeal, though. Check out the new clip:

And here’s the season three poster (goats: totally trending right now). Can anyone spot Marilyn Manson in that melee? He’s the big name guest star this year, playing a surgeon who sometimes dabbles as a barber (or vice versa).

Polish your cauldrons. Salem will return to Space this October.
