Happy 20th Birthday, Resident Evil

On this very day exactly 20 years ago, the first Resident Evil opened its creepy mansion doors (which, admittedly, took a really long time to load) and infected us with its groundbreaking survival horror narrative and gameplay.

The complete opposite of those rotting zombies that infested the old house’s dimly–lit hallways, the series has grown to become one of the freshest and most successful gaming franchises of all time—sales have topped 66 million worldwide—not to mention spawning a handful of campy Hollywood films.

To celebrate 20 years of shooting zombie dogs in the face with a shotgun, Capcom will be releasing a series of interviews from developers and key team members throughout 2016. The first clip features legendary producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi—who’s been involved with the franchise since day one—and you can watch it right here. Maybe turn on those subtitles.

If you need a Resident Evil refresher, we highly recommend checking out last year’s Resident Evil HD Remastered on PlayStation 4 and Steam. Capcom also has plans to bring ported versions of Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 to PS4 and Xbox One later this year. Save your precious shotgun shells.
