Puffs Is The Harry Potter Play You’ve Been Waiting For—Watch The Exclusive Trailer

Have you ever wondered what the other students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were doing while Harry, Ron, and Hermione were off saving the wizarding world? Enter Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic, a hilarious off-Broadway play that presents the Potterverse through the eyes of the Puffs—a lovable group of magical misfits.

In Puffs, Wayne, a completely ordinary boy from New Mexico, is plucked from his mundane existence to attend a school for wizards in the Scottish Highlands. (Technically, names must not be named, since this is purely a Harry Potter parody and nobody’s trying to get sued by J.K. Rowling.) Once he arrives at said school, he’s sorted into the Puffs, the oft-slighted house that’s typically described as a “lot o’ duffers.” Over the course of the next seven years, Wayne and his two best friends—a trio, if you will—learn what it really means to be a Puff.

You can watch the trailer for the off-Broadway hit—which has Puffs, Smarts, Braves, and Snakes alike singing its praises.

“Some people rise from humble beginnings to defeat the forces of darkness in the face of insurmountable odds,” the production’s premise reads. “Puffs is the story of the people who sit in class next to those people.” (Even Hufflepuffs know when to laugh at themselves.)

Puffs is packed with references and nods to its magical source material (“Dumbledore looks different this year!”), and book readers will especially revel in creator Matt Cox’s script. Trust me: The line, “Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?” is delivered with the utmost care. The play is equal parts laugh-out-loud funny and achingly tender. There are good times, loss, sexual awakenings, action, grief, and Cedric Diggory. What more could a Potter fan want?

The cast includes Langston Belton, Madeleine Bundy, Jessie Cannizzaro, Nick Carillo, AJ Ditty, Julie Ann Earls, Andy Miller, Zac Moon, Eleanor Phillips, and Stephen Stout.

Tickets for Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic are on sale online and at New York City’s Elektra Theatre through January 1.
