Prometheus 2 Gears Up For Production

Whether you loved or loathed 2012’s Prometheus, we’re here to tell you Ridley Scott’s prequel/spin-off to his 1979 masterpiece, Alien, is officially getting its sequel we all knew it was getting. This isn’t the first time Scott’s discussed his plans for a Prometheus follow-up, but now he’s given us something to mark on our calendars.

The latest issue of Total Film features a profile of Scott that also reveals Prometheus 2 will begin filming in January, 2016. The article is print-only, but we found a scan online, which also features a big, bold quote of Scott enthusiastically declaring “I’ve got back into the science fiction thing. I kind of adore it.”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Scott’s latest film, The Martian, crash-lands into theatres this October, shortly after making its world premiere at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival.

January’s production start can only mean there’s a solid chunk of script in the can, so anticipate plenty of plot details to surface over the next few months. According to IMDb, the film will include Michael Fassbender (perhaps more than his severed android head) and Noomi Rapace, and will be written by Michael Green and Jack Pagle.

Of course, if Prometheus isn’t your bag, Neill Bomkamp’s Alien 5 is currently in production, and it will almost certainly deliver the Xenomorph thrills we’ve missing out on for far too long.
