We Hit The Ice With The NHL 17 Beta
NHL 17 released their Beta last week, giving a few lucky gamers (including me!) a taste of what to expect when the September 13 release date rolls around.
The smallish sample of available modes were: EASHL, Online Versus, and HUT. I tried my hand at all three, but definitely spend the most time in EASHL. The game starts off with some awesome new customization options, allowing you to start your pro with some sick lettuce, tonness of equipment options, and my favourite, goal celebrations. So many throwback options, from Sean Avery’s pushups, Ovie’s flaming stick, Malek’s SO winner and (oh yeah!) the José Bautista Bat flip.
The new drop-in system in EASHL was also a huge plus. Having the ability to jump-in on any game so quickly made picking up the controller and hitting the virtual ice as effortless as ever. Surprising no one, the amount of detail EA put into this game is unmatched. The blade marks on the ice and the way the jerseys flow is something I’ll always marvel at.
While the Beta was limiting and only available for a short period (hardy har), it did a sufficient job at getting me excited for another season of NHL. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
