The New Rogue One Trailer Gets A Gold Medal From Us
Last night’s broadcast of some big international sporting event in Rio offered an extra incentive for Star Wars fans to tune in: the second trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered, making it worth watching a bunch of people in spandex splash around in a pool for what seemed like hours. We’re still a bit confused as to why Disney is so intent on turning us all into jocks (remember when we had to sit through Monday Night Football back in January?) but we’re sure about one thing: Rogue One looks incredible.
In this new two-minute clip, we see Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso transform from reluctant rebel to committed leader as the Imperial Forces move forward with an major weapons test that the Rebels aim to subvert—with around a two percent chance of success, predicts Captain Cassian Andor’s well-meaning sociopath of a droid, K-2SO.
Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera is almost as unhelpful, foreshadowing doom at the trailer’s start by proclaiming, “The world is coming undone. Imperial flags reign across the galaxy.” But at least that seems to do something to motivate Jyn to take action against the Empire.
Highlights in the new footage include: our hero marching into combat alone against a TIE Fighter, Donnie Yen’s badass Jedi Chirrut Îmwe facing down a squad of Stormtroopers after declaring, “I fear nothing. All is as the Force wills it,” and one brief, blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance from Darth Vader.
You’ve waited long enough/your entire childhood for this. Check out the trailer now.
