Leonardo Dicaprio Is Reportedly Making A Captain Planet Movie Because Of Course He Is

Every planet needs a hero—preferably one with a name that’s easy to remember like, say, Captain Planet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo DiCaprio is teaming up with Scream Queens star Glen Powell and his writing partner Jono Matt to take pollution down to zero with a live-action adaptation of the 90s cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers. If the deal is made for the rights to the cartoon, DiCaprio will produce the project, while Powell and Matt have been tapped to pen the script. (It’s unclear if Powell will also star in the film.)

This is great, but if the live-action reboot doesn’t include the original theme song, does it really even exist?

Captain Planet tells the story of five kids from around the world who are chosen by Gaia (the spirit of the Earth itself) to protect the planet from ecological disasters with the powers of earth, fire, wind, water, and heart. With their powers combined they can summon Captain Planet, a blue superhero with an iconic green mullet who uses the power of nature to save the world.

But this isn’t just a movie about kicking pollution’s ass and having a cool group of friends from around the world. THR‘s report suggests that the film will take place years after the adventures of the original series and the Captain is now a “washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him.” (But does he still have the mullet?!) OK, so it sounds like this has the potential to be pretty funny—and, you know, important for the environment.

Somebody get Don Cheadle on the line ASAP.
