Jimmy Fallon Gets Geeky With The Mario Theme Song, Star Wars Rap Battles, And Nintendo Switch

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is not afraid to get its geek on. On last night’s episode, video game designer and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto sat down with The Roots to perform a standout version of the Super Mario Bros. theme song.

Miyamoto and Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aim appeared on The Tonight Show to show off Super Mario Run, Mario’s first foray into mobile gaming. After playing through a level together, Fils-Aim opened a mystery box, revealing the new Nintendo Switch system. Fallon tested out the console-handheld hybrid—It looks seriously awesome.

To round out the nerd-fest, Fallon also invited Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Riz Ahmed, now better known as Riz MC from Swet Shop Boys. After spilling the details on his audition process for the new Star Wars film, Fallon challenged Ahmed to show off his hip hop skills. His Star Wars freestyle hit all the right notes, and left of us re-imagining the franchise as a hip hop musical. Can you imagine a rap battle between Jar Jar Binks and Rogue One‘s-K-2SO? It’d be pretty great.
