HBO Canada Chills Out In Quebec City For ‘Game of Thrones’ Season Four Release

Hotel de Glace

Since the moment Joffrey ordered Ned Stark’s beheading on what might have been the most shocking Game of Thrones episode until the red wedding, fans of the hit HBO series have expected the unexpected—and so do the journalists that review it.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season is scheduled for release on February 17 and HBO Canada chose to celebrate by sending a group of journalists to man “The Wall at Castle Black.”

Hotel de Glace Chapel

Well, they didn’t actually send us to join the Nights Watch, but they did book us in for a one-night stay at Quebec City’s Hôtel de Glace, where we spent an evening at a hotel made entirely of ice and snow.

Hotel de Glacé maintains a temperature of approximately -5 Celsius and is the closest you’ll get to spending a night at Castle Black without the worry of Wildlings or White Walkers. The hotel has been designed to feature the common elements of a regular hotel, featuring a bar and disco, 44 guest rooms (each with a unique design), a Scandinavian spa and an indoor slide fit for anyone willing.

Upon arriving at Hôtel de Glace, we received a tour and demonstration on how to use the hotel’s thermal sleeping bags, which was VERY important for survival. After the questions and concerns portion of the tour, we made our way to the hotel chapel for HBO Canada’s presentation.

Hotel de Glace Ice Cups

Somewhere between sipping cocktails from ice cups and mingling with the HBO team, journalists started getting into character and feeling more and more like they were inside Castle Black. We found plastic swords beneath the banners of House Targaryen and before we knew it there was a ‘Battle of the Journalists’ in the midst of the party.

No one was hurt and a truce was called just in time for HBO Canada’s Vice President, Brian Blazik, to greet us with a presentation. Blazik gave us a snapshot into the future of HBO projects along with a sneak peek at the exclusive bonus content featured on the season four Game of Thrones Blu-ray.

Eventually, the cold got the best of us and it was time for bed. Sleeping with one eye open—because, you know, White Walkers and drunk journalists—we managed to survive the night at Hôtel de Glace.
