Another Red Priestess Is Coming To Stir Up Trouble On Game Of Thrones

Deadline reports that Game of Thrones has cast British up-and-comer Melanie Liburd (The Grinder, Stalker) as a new disciple of the Lord of Light. The actress confirmed the news with a selfie on Instagram, captioned, “Flying back to London then on to Spain to film Game Of Thrones. Holy *%#@ dreams actually do come true! I’m so excited I feel like jumping up and down!!”

But don’t panic, Melisandre fans (if any of you actually exist)—Liburd’s red priestess won’t be replacing M. There’s plenty of room for more than one fiery, magical red woman in Westeros (remember when we briefly met an Asian priestess in Volantis last season?), and Liburd’s character will reportedly be separate and different from Carice van Houten’s Melisandre. Which is great news, considering the theories that Melisandre may have a hand in bringing a certain curly-haired someone back to life.

Liburd also shared an Instagram photo of the scenery in Spain, where Watchers on the Wall confirmed she’s been seen filming. That means she’s likely shooting scenes on the show’s Mereen set, where Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Conleth Hill (Varys) have also been filming.

Day of exploring and befriending the locals in Peniscola Spain.

Liburd’s new role is just the latest in a series of revealing casting news. We previously found out Freddie Stroma will play Samwell Tarly’s brother, Max von Sydow will take over as the Three-Eyed Raven, and Ian McShane has nabbed a mystery role.

Game of Thrones returns for its sixth season in spring 2016. Until then, beware: the internet is dark and full of spoilers.
