Danny McBride Is About To Return To HBO With ‘Vice Principals’
Kenny Powers is effing out, but Danny McBride is effing back in on HBO.
Even with “Eastbound and Down” in the rearview mirror, McBride is moving full speed ahead on a new HBO project: “Vice Principals,” an 18-part comedy series set in high school.
“It’s set during one school year at a high school where two vice principals wage war,” McBride told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival, where he was promoting his new movie “Don Verdean,” a dark comedy about religion starring Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb, among others.
McBride revealed that he’s reteaming with Jody Hill and David Green of “Eastbound” fame for the new series, which they’re writing all at once. That’s right: All 18 episodes, fully written before production even begins.
“We wanted to write the whole thing before we shot any of it,” he said. “So I’ve been in a cave for the last year testing out material.”
McBride will play one of the two vice principals at the heart of the show, but what about the other one? His lips remain sealed for now, but won’t be for much longer.
“We start shooting in a month,” he said. “It’ll all be real very soon.”
