Star Trek fans were devastated when news broke this morning that legendary actor, Leonard Nimoy—known for his role as the original Spock—passed away at his Los Angeles home from obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 83. The death of the beloved ‘Star Trek’ actor shook the internet, prompting fans and fellow cast members to take to Twitter sharing in their heartbreak:

Nimoy lived his life to the fullest, credited as appearing in over 75 Star Trek episodes, 7 films and 3 video games as either Spock or Spock Prime. Nimoy had an impressive career and was loved by many. To celebrate his life we’ve put together a list of our favourite Leonard Nimoy Spock moments. Saving Enterprise from Genesis In ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Spock sacrifices his life to save ‘Enterprise‘ from Khan’s activation of Genesis. The film ends with an emotional goodbye between Spock (Nimoy) and Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner). Spock’s final words to Captain Kirk are, “I have been, and always shall be, your friend. Live long and prosper.”


2. Becoming a Star Trek Director After great commercial success of ‘The Wrath of Khan‘, Paramount commissioned the next installment, ‘Star Trek III: The Search for Spock‘. Nimoy directed the film, making him the first ever Star Trek actor to direct for the franchise. Out of Darkness in Star Trek Reboot In 2009, the film franchise rebooted with another ‘Star Trek’ film, this time starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. The characters appeared as younger versions of themselves, but the film’s plot dealt with a hiccup in time, thereby presenting the opportunity to reintroduce a second casting of ‘old’ Spock, played by the original Vulcan master, Leonard Nimoy.

4. ‘The Lazy Song’: A Day in the Life of Leonard Nimoy  Leonard Nimoy was best known for his role as Spock, the human-Vulcan that could, but he was more than capable of breaking the rules and having a laugh. In 2011, Bruno Mars released an alternative music video for his single, ‘The Lazy Song,’ starring Leonard Nimoy as himself. In the video, Nimoy embraces the lazy life, wearing pajamas in public, giving the middle finger to strangers, and using fan mail as a table level.

5. From Vulcan to the Simpsons  Nimoy made more than one appearance on the Simpsons, but it was the one that had him claiming heroism before disappearing via teleport that had us smiling again.
