New Nintendo 3DS is a Comin’ to Canada

New 3DS

On-the-go gamers rejoice! The New Nintendo 3DS handheld is finally coming to North America on February 13, after having previously dropped in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand in late 2014.

Just to be clear, this isn’t a brand new piece of next gen gaming hardware, but more of a substantial upgrade. Whether or not you want to shell out $229.99 for this puppy is up to you, but we’re here to help you make the call with the deets known so far.

Here’s all the new stuff the New Nintendo 3DS has to offer:

• Faster processor that loads games and apps at a significantly speedier rate (we compared, it’s true), and will also exclusively support a number of upcoming games, like April’s Xenoblade Chronicles
• Better WiFi for better internet-ing: faster downloads, smoother online play
• Improved battery life for longer cord-free gaming sessions
• Auto-brightness option, to save even more battery life…
• …Which you’re going to want for enhanced “glasses-free” 3D that boasts face tracking (no more going cross-eyed when playing from different angles)
• All-new C-Stick, which serves the same purpose as this thing
• Finally, unlike the 3DS and 3DS XL, the lower screen supports amiibo, which will certainly be compatible with Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

A couple more things of note: at this point, Canada appears to only be getting the New 3DS XL, which doesn’t boast customable faceplates like the non-XL New 3DS. Also, you’ll need to get an AC adaptor separately, because it’s not included here. Luckily, it’s the same ‘ol string used for the DSi, 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, so surely you’ve got one lying around. Those colourful 3DS charging docks also aren’t compatible with the New 3DS, but you may eventually want to shell out for this rad toaster-like charging thingy.

Come February 13, the New Nintendo 3DS will be available in three different models, in addition to being optionally bundled with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Colour-wise, nothing has been confirmed here, though we did receive an über sleek black model, so you can count on that. Online, we’ve also spotted red, blue, and this golden guy:
